Labor must ensure authorities have the resources and powers to hold scammers to account

The actions of scammers who have setup fraudulent fundraising pages in the name of a deceased firefighter are nothing short of disgraceful.

The Andrews Labor Government must ensure that Victoria Police has the resources and that adequate laws are in place to stamp out this despicable behaviour and hold those responsible to account.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Police and Community Safety, David Southwick:

“Victorians donating to bushfire appeals deserve to know their money is going to the right place and not into the pockets of disgraceful scammers.

“Daniel Andrews must act immediately to ensure Victoria Police is fully resourced to investigate and shut down dodgy bushfire appeals.”

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Consumer Affairs, Neil Angus:

“The full force of the law must be applied to these scammers who are the lowest of the low.

“Victorians have been so generous to the victims of this bushfire disaster that it is gut-wrenching that scammers would try and take advantage of this crisis.”
