Bit Late – Daniel Andrews is only now hunting for a Commissioner to support local jobs

Monday, 10 September 2018

After almost four years in government, with only 74 days until the election, the Andrews Labor Government is only now searching the market for a Local Jobs Commissioner.

The Liberals Nationals continue to take a proactive approach to local content, local skills and local procurement and have already announced that a Liberal Nationals Government would support local jobs by:

  • Requiring renewable energy projects over $50 million to use 75% local Victorian content. This Victorian content will include materials, supplies and labour.
  • Using Australian-made paper to fill the photocopiers and printers of state government departments, backing local jobs and industry.
  • Investing $633 million in country rail to replace the aging fleet of diesel hauled trains, six new train sets, consisting of 96 new railcars will be built in Victoria, creating more Victorian jobs.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Investment & Jobs, Craig Ondarchie:

“With crime, congestion and cost of living out of control, Daniel Andrews again neglects Victorian jobs and business by leaving this search until the dying minutes of his Government’s term.

A Matthew Guy- led Liberal Nationals Government from Day 1 will drive greater focus on local content, local skills and local procurement bringing important jobs and investment to Victoria.”
