Labor’s North East Link fraud exposed: Not $1 to build it

Tuesday, 15 May 2018

Daniel Andrews’ fraud on Melbourne’s north-eastern suburbs was exposed today as Treasurer Tim Pallas admitted that there is not $1 in Labor’s budget to build the North East Link.

Labor has told Victorians that they will put the road project to tender within 100 days of the election.

But Labor Treasurer Tim Pallas today admitted to Parliament’s Public Accounts and Estimates Committee that Labor’s budget does not contain a single dollar to fund construction of the North East Link.

All that is in the budget is $110 million for “development to procurement”; nothing for actual construction. $110 million represents just 0.67 per cent of the $16.5 billion estimated project cost.

With no construction money in the budget for the next four years, Labor’s promise to begin building the North East Link after the election has been revealed as a fraud.

Comments attributable to Shadow Treasurer, Michael O’Brien:

“Daniel Andrews’ press release promising to build the North East Link isn’t worth the paper it is written on.

“This is a hoax announcement from a Premier who has cancelled more roads then he’s built.

“You cannot build a road if you don’t have the money to pay for it. Labor doesn’t have $1.

“The fact is the Turnbull Government has committed more money for the actual construction of the North East Link than has the Andrews Government.

“The admission from Labor’s Treasurer that there is no money in Labor’s budget to build the North East Link shows that Daniel Andrews just can’t be believed.”
