All young members of the Liberal Party can participate in the activities of the Young Liberal Movement.
The Victorian Young Liberal Movement has a proud history of policy development, political campaigning and support for Parliamentary Members. We are also never forgetful of the fact that this great Movement was formed in Melbourne in 1945 by Sir Robert Menzies.
The Movement places a particularly strong emphasis on policy with the Movement’s peak policy-making body, Movement Council, meeting monthly, as does the elected Policy Committee.
In addition, the Young Liberal Movement aims to encourage members to participate not only in political aspects of the Liberal Party, but also in a regular sporting competition, in community service activities and in numerous social events as part of its broad, all-encompassing charter, as defined in our Movement's By-laws.
It is this diversity of activities which makes the Movement highly relevant and enjoyable for a wide spectrum of individuals who subscribe to the basic philosophies of the Liberal Party and Liberalism.
Many members of the Movement have gone on to build successful careers both in the private and public sectors as well as in the Federal and State Parliament. Prominent former Victorian Young Liberals include Hon Peter Costello MP, Sir Philip Lynch, Hon Peter Reith, Hon Andrew Peacock, Hon Louise Asher MLA and Hon Bruce Atkinson MLC (to name only a few).
