Gary Blackwood was elected the Member for Narracan at the November 2006 election and was re-elected in 2010.
Gary grew up in Gippsland and graduated from Warragul High School in 1969. He went on to study economics and politics at the Monash Secondary Teachers’ College. Gary also completed National Service, spending time at Puckapunyal, Sydney and Adelaide training facilities.
Gary spent 30 years starting and expanding a Timber Transport and Harvesting business in West Gippsland, going on to become the Chief Executive Officer of the Victorian Forest Harvesting & Cartage Council – a position he held from 2002 until his election.
He is committed to serving the local community, and has a long history of community involvement in and around Warragul. Gary was previously a councillor for Baw Baw Shire Council, and has been Senior Vice President of the West Gippsland Healthcare Group Board of Management as well as Chairman of the Marist-Sion College Board of Management.
In November 2009, Gary was given added responsibility becoming the Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Health Services.
Gary is currently the Parliamentary Secretary for Transport.
Gary and his wife Fritha have six children and live in Warragul.
